Remembering the days we spent together, to our professors

 

On February 22nd, some valuable professors at our university retired. They have guided our students academically for a long period and have been beacons of learning and knowledge. Now, I remember the precious moments with them, and I express my gratitude and respect.

 

I'm going to post their footsteps.


Retirement ceremony for full-time teachers

 

First of all, Professor Son Yang-hoon of the Department of Economics at Global College of Politics and Economics.

Professor got a bachelor's degree in economics from Yonsei University in 1982

He earned a master's degree in economics from Yonsei University's graduate school in 1984.

And in 1989, he earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Florida.

Since March 1998, he has been a professor of economics at our university

He contributed to the training of the next generation of academics in economics.

From June 2013 to December 2014, he studied national energy policy and contributed to the development of the national economy by serving as the head of the Energy Economics Institute, which contributes to the improvement of the national economy.

In addition, he served as chairman of the Resource Economics Association, a member of the National Economic Advisory Council, a member of the Energy Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and a member of the Green Growth Committee.

Then, he laid the systematic foundation for preemptively responding to the rapidly changing domestic energy policy environment internally and externally and played a part in the demands of the times of carbon neutrality and national projects.

 

Next is Professor Song Byung-geun of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering.

The professor earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering in 1980 and a master's degree in mechanical design in 1982. And in 1992, you earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.

Since then, from 1995, they have dedicated themselves to teaching mechanical engineering at our university, pouring their efforts into education for 29 years, nurturing future generations.

Since he served at our university, he has served as the vice president of the College of Engineering and the head of the Jemulpo campus management division, contributing to the development of Incheon National University.

Furthermore, from 2020 to 2024, while serving as the appointed admissions advisor at our university, they demonstrated exceptional insight, judgment, and analytical skills to identify students with immense potential, akin to precious gems, who could blossom upon admission to our school. His efforts have contributed to envisioning a bright future for the university.

 

Next is Professor Choi Eun-hyuk from the Dept. of Japanese Language Education at the College of Education.

The professor obtained a bachelor's degree in Japanese language education from Sangmyung University in 1982 and a master's degree in Japanese literature from Sangmyung University's graduate school in 1984.

And she earned her Ph.D. in Japanese literature from the Graduate School of Fukuoka University in 2003.

Since 1988, she has been serving as a professor in the Department of Japanese Language and the Department of Japanese Language and Literature and the Dept. of Japanese Language Education at our university. In 2013, she developed the Overseas Academic Research Program and the Japan Overseas Teaching Practice Program for the Dept. of Japanese Language Education.

By introducing the internship program at Japan's Kansai International Airport to the International Education Center in 2023, she has laid the foundation for strengthening the global capacity of Incheon National University.

As a founding member of Korea's first Korean Language Education Association, which was founded in 1999, she served as the president of the association from 2001 to 2003. Since then, she has served as the editor-in-chief, the chairman of the society's development advisory committee, and the chairman of the research ethics committee.

In addition, she has been chairman of the East Asian Citizens Education Multilingual Curriculum Development Committee of the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education and a member of the International Exchange and Cooperation Committee since 2020. And she has contributed greatly to the development of Japanese language education in Korea.

 

Next is Professor Kim Jung-wan of the Department of Biotechnology at the College of Life Sciences&Bioengineering.

The professor obtained a bachelor's degree in food engineering from Korea University in 1981 and a doctorate in science majored in life science from Illinois State University in the United States in 1990.

Since she has been with our university since 1994, she has contributed to the establishment of the Department of Biotechnology in 2012. She contributed to the revitalization and development of convergence research at Incheon National University by discovering and supporting convergence research while serving as the head of Incheon National University's Convergence Science and Technology Institute from 2018 to 2021.

She contributed to fostering the bio-industry history for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Incheon area as the center director of the Innovation Human Resources Development Center, which was established with the support of the Ministry of Employment and Labor at Incheon National University from 2017 to 2020.

In addition, she has contributed greatly to revitalizing the BT industry in the local community as a member of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Development Advisory Committee from 2019 to the present.
